sunset
Thursday, November 7

There we all sat, at the 100m mark of the firing range, waiting for the light of day to fade. Commanders and men alike were all equally eager to get the night familiarisation shoot over and done with; but alas, the technicians at the range insisted otherwise - it was too bright, they said.

So there we sat stupidly, continually staring at the targets, hoping that the darkness of night would finally cloud our visions enough for it to be considered a 'night shoot'.

But the more we stared, the more time seemed to stand still, the sun refusing to go down on us. So we turned to each other instead, chatting away; and before long, the light dimmed, and we could finally begin.

It's pretty cool how change can seem to elude us when we just keep staring at the situation we have at hand, even though the change we're looking for is happening right under our noses. Just like a sunset, the change really is happening - it's just that at that particular moment, it seems like nothing is happening, especially when the change is so gradual.

But when we take our eyes off our problems and instead look to Him, drawing on His strength and enjoying His presence, we start to notice positive changes in our situation. It's not that taking our eyes off the situation causes the change to happen; the change is happening anyway, but focusing on the problem often blinds us to that.

So take your eyes off your troubling situation and look instead to Christ (: Love how He always teaches me through instances like these!

AMEN;
